Spring 2023 Government Relations Internship Opportunity

Corcoran Partners is a full-service government relations firm with offices in Tampa, Tallahassee, Miami, St. Petersburg and Washington, DC.  Our firm is offering paid internships for the 2023 Spring Semester, beginning early January through early May, to be an integral part of our team in Tallahassee leading up to and during the 2023 Legislative Session.  Previous interns have gone on to pursue higher education, serve as legislative committee and executive branch policy staff, and within the judicial system.

 

Our legislative affairs internship program is designed to expose students to what it is like working with a range of public policy issues affecting the State of Florida. This internship provides hands-on experience with the legislative process including research, policy development, communication, tracking, and working in a team-centered workplace. Additionally, under the guidance of senior members of our team, the intern will assist, plan, and implement special projects and related tasks as assigned.

 

We expect each intern to be a part-time member of our team and work approximately 15-20 hours each week. The intern’s time will focus on Legislative Affairs.

 

Specifically, main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Tracks committee hearings and policy bills in real-time and provides written reports on bills in various stages of the legislative process using the LobbyTools legislative tracking system.

  • Writes and develops briefings and compiles information for internal and external use.

  • Provides legislative material to staff and policymakers.

  • Proactively creates, updates, and maintains all relevant documents and processes relating to legislative session.

  • Proactively coordinates and maintains bill analyses and bill summary tracking.

  • Confidentiality in all matters will be maintained at all times.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word or similar computer programs.

  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research.

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
